April Music Bits
A few li'l things that've caught my eye/ear in the last week:
1. Those crazy youngsters in the Dirty South drummed up a Myspace page, proving that... well, even veteran acts are in on the ol' social networking. See it at: http://www.myspace.com/theedirtysouth.
2. Typewriter Tim Jordan - a fellow who really needs to go by the descriptor of "cat" - has an art show up at Baseline, which opened during this weekend's First Friday art walk. The space, which seems to sell really high-end/vaguely obtuse home furnishings, is located at 1110 Washington. He'll also be appearing this Friday, April 14 at the Hi-Pointe; though we're not exactly sure what form his set will take, DJ Leon Lamont may be invovled. Intriguing.
3. Fans of a certain era of STL rock will be enthused by a new add to the schedule of Blueberry Hill Duck Room. On May 6, the Great Crusades and the American Professionals will be playing; members of the former act were principals in the old Suede Chain, while the American Pros are headed up by longtime Nukes bassist Chuck Lindo.
4. Bummer about Brandt's, eh?

1. Brandt's is going to go up for sale, as Jay Brandt will be moving to Cincinnati, due to his wife's transferring within the May Company. There's a good, short story on this in a recent P-D column by Martin van der Werf.
2. Oddly, Centro-matic recorded a bunch of live stuff for KDHX; or, rather, they will record it tomorrow. I'm lucky enough to fill in for Nico on Coin-Operated Radio this Saturday, the 15th and will have live cuts to play between 6-8 p.m.

They're back from their tour of Deutschland and ready to rock the Planet Granite! That's right, the Great Crusades will play the infamous Jacobsmeyer's Tavern, deep in the heart of Granite City. The Great Crusades will play Jacobsmeyer's this Saturday, April 15, at 10:30 pm.
The Great Crusades have a new CD out on Glitterhouse Records once again, Four Thirty. They played a bunch of songs from the new CD last time they played Jacobsmeyers, now they're road tested & ready for Granite.
Opening for the Great Crusades will be the Flat Wheel Band. The Flat Wheel Band plays a lot of the good old outlaw country stuff. Everybody loves johnny cash, right?
Jacobsmeyer's is everything you wish your neighborhood tavern could be; cheap beer, tin ceilings, salty popcorn, beer garden, horseshoes, and filled with bluesy, barsy, outlaw rock and roll! Jacobsmeyer's is at 2401 Edwards, near IL 162 and Nameoki, phone 876-8219.
Come out and rock til its time to go home and cook the easter eggs....or ham...or something.
Heads up: the Great Crusades will also play the Duck Room at Blueberry Hill, on May 6, 2006, with the American Professionals. The American Professionals feature the former bass player from the great St. Louis band, the Nukes. But where's Packy?
